Lucy Chipeta, Rev Chipeta's daughter and Executive Director of Home of Hope, was there to meet us as always.
Several other of the staff team met us outside the airport and set off for Mchinji with our stuff in a small truck, while Lucy took us to pick up a local SIM card and a few provisions. Then after a two hour drive, the refreshing sight of Mchinji Mountains. They tell us we're nearly Home from Home.
30 children or more have waited for us in the dark outside the Visitors' Lodge, sitting on chairs they've carried from the Main Hall. We apologise to them for being "late" (Lucy always expands in translating, and explains about the bad traffic and queues for fuel) and say we look forward to being able to actually see them in the daylight tomorrow.

Rev and Mrs Chipeta, the founders of Home of Hope, came up to the Visitors Lodge to greet us and to pray brief thanks for our safe arrival.

Time then for the meal we'd been waiting for. Delicious!

Time for bed.

Hi! Welcome to our blog! It's focused on sharing the experience of spending time with our friends in Malawi. Special thanks to you if you've supported our  fundraising  towards the projects and equipment we'll be delivering this year.   In less than a fortnight our team of 11 volunteers from UK and Poland set off for " Home of Hope ", Malawi. From the capital, Lilongwe, we'll drive about two hours west, along the road towards Zambia. We'll turn right at Mchinji along a line of hills instead of carrying on to the Zambian border, just a few kilometers on, and arrive at what is home and school for over 700 children and young people, and staff.  We realize it's a privilege to travel. You're warmly invited to follow us as we post updates each day, sharing stories we hope will make Malawi and the work of Home of Hope feel less a world apart. Next post

Before and After

[ Previous Post ] I've been waiting for some "after" photos to share with you, post-painting, and some arrived today: Rusty iron sheet roofs (photo above from September 2022) replaced and/or painted with "Roof Guard". Floating edges strengthened against severe weather with well-fitted fascia boards. Floors repaired; walls repaired and painted; cement-block windows replaced with iron-work grills.  Blackboards re-surfaced and/or re-painted Insecure and damaged doors replaced.
